In September, a Buena Park man went missing after going diving in Laguna Beach. No body was ever recovered. Two weeks later, the same man who was thought to have perished in the water is suspected of running over a 22-year-old woman in Los Angeles County For 11 grueling hours, helicopters, boats and divers from four agencies searched unsuccessfully for a 29-year-old man who went diving with friends but never surfaced. His body, it was believed then, had perished under the water. But more than three months after John Sung Park(朴) disappeared, investigators said the Buena Park man has been seen miles away from Laguna Beach and they have reason to believe he faked his own death to avoid three arrest warrants and a sentencing. About $50,000 in resources was spent looking for Park's body, said Sgt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach Police. Instead, police said Park allegedly showed up in Los Angeles County two weeks after he disappeared and ran down a 22-year-old woman. But before he disappeared, two other arrest warrants had been issued for Park's arrest, including one related to an Orange County case where he plead guilty to possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, forgery, and second degree burglary. He was expected to appear in court to be sentenced in that case on Sept. 15, according to court records. Investigators believe Park may have faked his death in order to avoid the arrest warrants and pending cases, Kravetz said. The day before he went missing, Park sold his 1994 Mercedes Benz, Kravetz said. Almost two weeks after he disappeared, he showed up at the home of the woman who had bought the car and demanded to get the car back. During the altercation, Park ran over a 22-year-old woman and fled, Kravetz said. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/park-beach-kravetz-2269565-authorities-police http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-diver31-2008dec31,0,5349671.story
