Leave it to Paris-based fashion house Maison Martin Margiela to take a pair of plain old Converses--sneakers that, let's face it, have had no shortage of reimaginations--and find a way to make them utterly original. How'd they do it? With a fresh coat of paint. Literally. You're looking here at a pair of white-painted All Stars that seem to glow, in a flat-matte way, against all the other ordinary sneaks walking the pavement. They're somehow street-style and high-fashion, a design object you're not afraid to actually wear. Lesson learned: Sometimes you can just paint it white and start over. $200, available soon.
