Eight athletes caught doping ahead of China's national games English.news.cn 2013-08-21 10:18:21 BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's anti-doping authorities Wednesday said eight athletes tested positive in the second quarter of the year, including one through the biological passport. By far there have been 12 doping cases this year, leveling the total of last year. China's Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) said the rise in number of positive cases may have something to do with the approaching Chinese National Games. "The number of positive cases largely increased compared with that of last year, which sent us a warning," said CHINADA head He Zhenwen. "There always will be someone who risks doping for unfair advantage when the return is lucrative," said He. "History told us that the national games could well be the reason for cheating." ttp://news.xinhuanet.com/english/china/2013-08/21/c_132649345.htm
Tyson Gay positive test was for a banned steroid Former world 100m champion Tyson Gay tested positive for a banned steroid, the BBC has learned. News of the American's failed test emerged last month, but the details of the substance he tested positive for have - until now - not been made public. The BBC has obtained extracts of a letter sent to Gay by the United States Anti Doping Agency (Usada) which outlines the nature of the substance traced in a sample he gave to drug testers during the US World Championship trials in June. The letter, dated 23 July, states: "Using the Carbon Isotope Ratio Analysis it reported that the sample had an adverse analytical finding reflecting values that are consistent with the administration of a steroid of exogenous [external] nature." The letter goes on to say that a positive test for an "anabolic agent" of this kind would - if proven - be a violation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) code. Under the Wada code, the standard ban for an athlete found guilty of taking a prohibited steroid is two years - the maximum punishment currently available. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/athletics/23806237

Turkish hurdler Yanit handed doping suspension (Reuters) - Double European 100m hurdles champion Nevin Yanit has been handed a two-year suspension for drugs violations by the Turkish Athletics Federation (TAF), the authority announced on Wednesday. The decision comes just three weeks after the federation banned 31 athletes for doping offences and with a September 7 International Olympic Committee (IOC) vote looming on whether Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo will host the 2020 Olympics. In May, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said Yanit faced a ban following "multiple positive findings in both in-competition and out-of-competition tests". The Turkish federation said it made its decision to ban the 27-year-old athlete at a disciplinary board meeting on Tuesday. ttp://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/28/us-athletics-turkey-doping-idUSBRE97R0OR20130828
